Officials Discuss Flood Solutions and Coastal Maintenance in Pangasinan Meeting
The Provincial Government of Pangasinan, together with officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region I, recently held a meeting to discuss solutions to flooding and coastal area maintenance in the municipalities of Binmaley and Lingayen.
Led by Pangasinan Governor Ramon Mon-Mon Guico III, the meeting highlighted the pressing issue of frequent flooding in the area, compounded by the presence of informal settlers in the coastal regions.
During the meeting, MGB officials presented the results of the Rapid Coastal Vulnerability Mapping study conducted in unclassified public lands surrounding the two municipalities, which showed significant soil deposits in Pangapisan Norte that cause overflowing of rivers. As a solution, regular dredging operations in the area were recommended to prevent flooding.
The provincial government also expressed their willingness to implement regular dredging operations, but noted that there are processes that need to be followed to ensure their effectiveness and sustainability.
2nd district Congressman Mark Cojuangco was also present during the meeting and invited technical personnel to provide further solutions to flooding in his district.
The meeting was a productive and collaborative effort towards finding sustainable solutions to prevent flooding and maintain the coastal areas of Binmaley and Lingayen. The stakeholders emphasized the importance of working together to address the challenges brought about by climate change and ensure the safety and well-being of the communities in the area.
