PHP14-Million Pasalubong Center Near Manaoag Basilica to Open This Year

A PHP14-million Pasalubong Center is under construction beside the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag, with completion expected within the year. The project aims to accommodate the town’s growing number of visitors and boost the local economy.
“It has been planned for a long time. We fully support the idea because it will showcase not only local products but also products of the whole province,” Manaoag Mayor Jeremy Rosario said in an interview Monday.
Construction began in July 2024 with an initial PHP4 million in funding, followed by an additional PHP10 million this year. The project is set for completion within six to eight months. Officials are expediting efforts to open the center ahead of Holy Week, when Manaoag experiences peak tourist arrivals.
The Pasalubong Center’s design was created by Jason Buensalido and Cholo Ramirez of Barchan Architecture and Design Company in Manila. The facility is expected to house local delicacies, handicrafts, and other regional products, enhancing the town’s reputation as a top faith tourism destination.
Mayor Rosario also announced other infrastructure projects, including the PHP20-million renovation of Rizal Park under the General Appropriations Act of 2025. “It will be an open park with a small area for gatherings,” he said, noting efforts to improve public spaces. Plans are also underway to reorganize vendor areas for better visitor experience.
Manaoag saw a significant increase in tourist arrivals in 2024, with 5.78 million visitors—an 11% rise from 2023’s 5.2 million. The upcoming Pasalubong Center is expected to further enhance the town’s appeal to pilgrims and tourists alike.
